SPEECH PATHOLOGY

Mieke Nyssen
MSLP CPSP
I live in the beautiful Blue Mountains, NSW, where I love to bushwalk, swim, and mountain bike. I am a very proud mum of two grown-up sons.
I was inspired to pursue postgraduate study while working in the disability services sector supporting adults with complex support needs. I have always had an interest in language and communication and had previously completed a Bachelor of Arts in Languages and Linguistics. Working with people with complex communication needs sparked my interest in pursuing a career in health sciences, and I went on to complete a Master of Speech Language Pathology in 2015 at The University of Sydney.
As my career has progressed, I have become particularly passionate about supporting people with swallowing and additional mealtime support needs, which is now the main focus of my private practice.
My approach is practical and person-centred, with a strong focus on collaboration with families, disability support workers and organisations, and other allied health professionals.
I also focus on training and working with teams to ensure knowledge and skills to support safe, positive, and enjoyable mealtimes.
I am a Practising Member of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).
